This workshop is the foundation for leadership to understand and foster the values required to enable high-performing Scrum teams. It focuses both on the leader’s own mindset and behaviors, and in guiding an agile organization.
Leading Agile Organizations is an interactive leadership-focused workshop building skills and competencies to effectively guide and grow agile leaders, coaches and their organizations. This workshop is focused in two parts: personally on the agile leader in their self-agility and leading others, and externally on the leader’s capacity to drive organizational delivery and agility.
The workshop is rooted through decades of research in neuroscience and human development, embedded in established leadership and organizational frameworks, and validated through years of practice across dozens of organizations. This workshop demonstrates effective application of theory and provides concrete models, tools and techniques for leaders to employ directly in their organizations.
Day 1: Self-Leadership Agility & Catalyst Conversations

The workshop kicks off with a historical perspective of human development and leadership from the nomadic, agricultural, industrial and current creative societies. We explore leadership mindset and behaviors through these historical lenses and the impact that size, complexity and the rapid pace of change has had on leadership and organizations.
We introduce the Leadership Agility Maturity Model of expert, achiever and catalyst leadership to foster self-awareness of our own leadership maturity and to discover more agile thinking and behaviors. We explore the mindset and behaviors of leaders at these varying maturity levels to self-reflect on leadership traits in ourselves and others who lead us. And we discover how our brains are wired to respond to the threats of everyday work life and the cognitive response strategies required to improve decisions and outcomes.
Finally, we practice a simple 5-step catalyst conversation technique to positively impact every aspect of our work (and personal) life. Through this technique, the leader will learn to turn destructive threats into constructive rewards in coaching others through self-responsibility, leading teams through self-organization, and guiding effective and sustainable organizational change. These techniques guide leaders in BEING agile over DOING Agile.
Day 2: Guiding and Growing Organizational Agility

This day re-orients the leader towards the organization and the focus of their work. Expanding upon the mindset and behaviors of the agile leader from day 1, we explore the organizational contexts of culture, structures and change to foster organizational delivery and agility. Two key focal points for the leader include improving the value delivery capability and improving the organizational learning capability.
We seek to understand organizational cultures and explore structural patterns inhibiting and/or enabling team development, self-organization, change, growth and value delivery. Some of these patterns underlying the scaling frameworks of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and Large Scale Scrum (Less). Organizational culture, the shadow of leadership, is often a hidden but pervasive influence within organizations. Organizational structures emerging from the culture influence leadership and team behaviors. Both impact deliver and agility, and need to be part of the agile leader’s lexicon.
We evaluate case studies of real organizations of different cultures applying agile structures of different patterns to drive effective and sustaining change with positive results. We reflect and share our own organizational cultures and structures in comparison to these case studies and other participant models.
Finally, we practice a simple 5-step V2MOM organizational change model to guide the change we need in our organizations. We learn how organizational change works, why it often fails, and we explore a model to guide effective change. A V2MOM change model creates a shared Vision, aligns the organizational Values, plans the Methods of change, identify the Obstacles to change, and guides the Measures of success.

Scaling frameworks are excellent for particular organizational cultures – this workshop goes behind the frameworks and explores core leadership competencies and organizational patterns that can assist with the implementation of an existing framework, or creation of your own framework, for agile maturity and growth.
